A shooting in the Poconos, leaves one woman dead and a man in custody. Pocono MOuntain Regional Police say it all took place last night at about 10:30 in Tunkhannock Township. Police say 43-year-old Damien Hoehler was drunk when he started threatening others with the gun. That led to an argument with his fiance’s mother, 59-year-old Diane Strohl, who was shot. Strohl died at the scene. Nobody else was hurt.

The search continues for a missing Monroe County teenage girl who was last seen nearly two weeks ago. Pocono Mountain Police say that 16-year-old Melina Gonzalez was last seen on Friday, March 3 at her grandmother’s home in Mount Pocono. Melina is described as a biracial Hispanic female, 5’4″ and 145 lbs. She has brown hair and brown eyes with light skin. Anyone with information is asked to call Pocono Mountain Regional Police at 570-895-2400.

Some recently discovered internal messages show that Penn State leaders are finishing layoff plans this month, and they say that while the university is in a “vulnerable state” it is not in a “financial crisis.” A Penn State administrator directed university leaders representing nearly all departments to submit the number of employees they plan to lay off by the end of June.

According to at least one local group, a project meant to stop rockfalls on I-80 in the Delaware Water Gap, combined with a road closure on Route 611, is actually making the area more dangerous for drivers. On Wednesday, Tara Mezzanotte, a founding member of the I-80 Rockfall Fence and Safety Concerns at the Delaware Water Gap Coalition, led a bus tour, calling on local, state and federal leaders to make changes to whate her group says is a very dangerous situation and causing many crashes.

A man was sentenced to serve up to 100 years in prison for rape and burglary in Northampton County. 36 year old Clement Swaby of Bethlehem is also facing additional charges of sexual assault in Montgomery County and more charges in Orange County, Florida.
